At the Musical Society of Geelong Inc. our focus is on young musicians of Greater Geelong, where we provide, Scholarships, Performance opportunities and Master Classes.

We do understand performing can be daunting for many, and here at the Musical Society of Geelong Inc. many of our members have gone through this experience and all the members are here to support you.

The role of a member is to help fund the activities provided by the Musical Society of Geelong Inc. through a small subscription fee, help in any way in running events etc. if you can ( there is no obligation). Come to our events and enjoy the musical talent of our up and coming musicians.

Dear Friends and Members,
Welcome to our website and our news. This year the Musical Society of Geelong has given music students of Geelong 2 wonderful opportunities to perform for audiences, and also gain critiques and scholarships from our Annual Scholarship Auditions and Finals. High numbers and standards again prove the need for what we do, and what we can offer young music students in Geelong.
The first event was a Mothers’ Day Afternoon Tea to raise funds for the annual scholarships held on 3 May at Belmont Uniting Church. The 2025 scholarship winners all performed to a very appreciative audience and enlightened us with comments on what winning the scholarship means to them, what benefits they have gained, and how they have used the funds. A scrumptious high tea and raffle completed the afternoon which was enjoyed by all.
Our Annual Scholarships (auditions and finals) were held in August this year with 20 students vying for scholarships in 3 sections: for reasons unknown, we had no applicants in the brass and vocal sections.
We had 3 adjudicators to assist with the auditions- Ian Ladd, Martin Greet and Jamie Parker, who each chose 3 finalists to participate in the Finals. We thank them for their stellar preliminary adjudicating.
The Finals were held at R.W. Gibson Music Performance Centre at Christian College Senior School in Highton, with Mark Shiells Adjudicating, who had links with Geelong through founding the Geelong Youth Orchestra. We sincerely thank CCG and Fiona Gardner for their great assistance and support.
There was a very supportive audience and well sized audience and the performance standard was pleasingly high. The winners were:
String: Shafer Sagor - Cello
Woodwind: Olivia Zampatti – Clarinet
Piano: Daniyel Jiang
President’s Encouragement Award: Olivia Cheng – Violin
Exciting news: on 7 May 2027 we will be holding our Bi-annual Fund Raising Dinner with an emphasis on Music and Mothers’ Day at Truffleduck. We are thrilled the guest artist/speaker will be Geelong’s own DENIS WALTER! SAVE THE DATE: the last dinner was a wonderful success and we need and value your support of our work.
Our AGM and Social evening will be held in late January 2027. Date tbc. Our membership form can be found under Membership section and we would appreciate your support in anyway you can. Kristine Mellens President.
